Lewis School was created in 1982 for students who are motivated to learn using the independent study method. Approximately 130 students, grades K-12, are served each school year. The school is named after Richard H. Lewis, a former Board member who served the district for over 25 years .
The Independent Study Option provides educational opportunities for:
the pursuit of special or unique educational interests
exceptionally gifted students to progress at an accelerated pace
the “home study family” to have professional educational services
students with medical problems
pregnant minors and teen parents
students with an immediate financial need to get a job
students who need to travel
students to study for the CHSPE or GED
students obtaining job training
students who have experienced conflicts at the traditional school
students who are needing to make up credits
